August 2018 Newsletter

News from the shop
We are in the final half of the 2018 season, and we have lots of news to share from a very busy season. Our Spec MX-5 East series is going very well with two events remaining in the season, our Global MX-5 program is expanding, and our Porsche club racing season has been highly successful.

Global MX-5 Cup
We just returned from Mid Ohio, where Brian Henderson picked up two Hard Charger Awards, Ted Sahley scored two wins in the Challenger class, and Todd Lamb won the Masters category. We’re picking up a new customer car in a few weeks for the 2019 season, with the goal of expanding to a 4-5 car program next season.

Spec MX-5 East
As part of last weekend’s double header, our Spec MX-5 series was at Road Atlanta. Nick Bruni and Peter Ensor picked up wins, leaving Jason Connole and Peter Ensor currently tied for the points for the regular season. The winner after the championship event will earn $100,000 towards a pro racing season.

Porsche Club Racing
Our first trip to Monticello Motor Club in NY a few weekends ago left us highly impressed. On top of an amazing facility hosting the Porsche club race, the staff, the food, and the atmosphere were the highlight of the weekend. Topher Everett swept the event in his Spec Boxster, winning everything there was to win. Will Tally continued to show huge improvements in his first season, after winning the Worker’s Choice award and a top 5 finish at Watkins Glen. Everett, Tally, and Hunt McMahon all represented Atlanta Speedwerks well, with top 5 finishes in Spec Boxster. Todd Lamb set the track record and won the sprint races in Spec Cayman.

Coaching tip
There are many variables that affect how a racecar enters a corner. For example, the amount of trailbraking, the handling of the car, the radius of the corner, the approach to the corner, what comes after the corner, etc. However one often overlooked variable is steering. The amount of steering is important, but the speed at which the steering wheel is turned is perhaps even more important for corner entry.
