IMSA TCR
We have only run an abbreviated IMSA season due to Covid, but our home track event at Petit LeMans was a huge success for the team. Bryan Ortiz and Cliff Brown teamed up to top the charts in both practice sessions and ran second for a large portion of the race. Brian Henderson and Todd Lamb qualified on pole and led a majority of the race, scoring the team’s first podium finish. Next season we plan to continue our TCR program, and add a GS car to the mix.
Global MX-5
The Global MX-5 Cup season was a whirlwind of events in a very short period of time with the revised schedule due to Covid. Peter Ensor earned the Hard Charger award at Mid Ohio. Tray Ayres, Brandon Collins, Brian Henderson, Ted Sahley, and Bryan Ortiz made guest appearances driving for the team during the season. Todd Lamb picked up a win at Indianapolis. We plan to run a 3 car program in 2021, starting at Daytona in January. Seats are currently available.
Porsche Club Racing
Most of the PCA events we typically attend were cancelled, but we did manage to visit Summit Point Raceway where Hunt McMahon swept the weekend in Spec Boxster. David Howells and Jeff Lacker set personal bests. We are currently in the process of prepping several Caymans and Boxsters for the track, including 2 new racecar builds for 2021. The PCA racing season kicks off at Sebring in early February. We have several spots available for trackside support and prep.
2021 Planning
For 2021, Atlanta Speedwerks will be focusing on the following series:
- IMSA GS/TCR
- Global MX-5
- SCCA – Majors events in preparation for Runoffs at Indy
- Porsche Club Racing
- Champcar
- Track days in the Southeast US (various groups)
In addition, we will continue with our partnership with PCA to support the Porsche Club track days at Road Atlanta (not just for Porsches!).
We also will continue to support customers who need work done on their cars for street or track.
We have openings for arrive and drive, trackside support, coaching, car prep, and car builds. Reply to this email for more information on how we can help you with your track day or racing goals.
Coaching tip
When it comes to analyzing data, your best lap may not have your best segments (aka corners) tied all together. It is important to look at the big picture and check other laps when you see a discrepancy, to verify that you’re not comparing a corner with traffic, a yellow flag, or some other reason for a slow segment. As well, the draft can make an average lap look great, so verify you’re not gaining time in the draft and losing it in the corners.
